Zirk has written professionally since the early 1980s, as a journalist, copywriter, corporate communications manager and communications consultant. For more than a decade, he has also helped dozens of New Zealand companies with their tender submissions. This includes businesses from small family outfits to the local branches of multinationals, in fields ranging from commercial cleaning to medical technology, social services, transport, education, manufacturing, financial services and civil engineering.
Zirk has a talent for assimilating new information, identifying and crafting appropriate messages, as well as a sound understanding of people and how best to get through to audiences. With a background in marketing and advertising, he can see the situation from the buyer’s point of view, figuring out what their real needs are, even when this is implied rather than stated.
Comfortable and adept at dealing with people at all levels of business, Zirk can write and present the information compellingly. He is also a stickler for accuracy, correct grammar and effective style.
On the side, Zirk enjoys and has had considerable success writing fiction, and his crime novel “Nobody Dies” (Random House) was named among the Top 5 of the year by NZ Herald in 2004, with a movie version released in 2019.
